Hokkaido, Japan
High up at the top of Japan is an island named Hokkaido, otherwise known as the Frozen North. Sometimes still covered in snow while southern Japan is almost in the arms of summer, Hokkaido is a pastoral, spacious island at odds with the bustling metropolises of Tokyo and Osaka. Known for it’s skiing, scenery and seafood, it holds a Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival) every year. During this festival, ice sculptures of various sizes, from rideable kid-sized slides, to delicately carved peacocks, are created throughout it’s main city, Sapporo. Nearby towns also participate. Have a look at the shot below to get an idea of the grandeur of some of these sculptures.
